Resources
Attitude offers five handbooks that challenge some core thinking that may pre-determine a teenagers' future. These resources encourage teenagers to adopt strong ‘head-messages’ to foster a sense of the future and good social connections. This sense of connectedness and optimism provides a vital foundation for the successful negotiation of the challenges of adolescence.
HANDBOOKS
Connected - you've upgraded the technology - now upgrade the user:
Our newest release focuses on the important topic of teen internet and cell phone use. Connected provokes young people to think critically about the benefits and dangers of these mediums so they can survive and thrive in the ‘connected’ world. Key topics include social networking, bullying, pornography, sexting, relationships and keeping one’s internet and cell phone use in balance with the rest of life.
Through this engaging booklet young people are encouraged to be people of character both online and offline.
Attitude - A handbook for your head: Attitude is a 36-page 'youth-friendly' booklet that throws a line to young people going through the storms of adolescence, helping them to make sense of life, feelings, relationships and who they are as people. It directly targets the issues that make New Zealand teenagers vulnerable to suicide, showing them that they have options and that a positive future is within their reach.
Hardwired - A handbook for growing, inhaling and injecting life:
Hardwired takes a holistic approach to drug education, considering the social and emotional reasons young people become involved in drug-taking, while also providing the facts about drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
The handbook encourages teenagers to realistically assess risk and think about possible outcomes.
Hauora - A handbook for the whole person:
Hauora is one of the concepts at the heart of the New Zealand high school health curriculum. It refers to the idea that all four sides of the whare/house are important and the development of all spheres is intrinsic to attaining a healthful balance in life.
This handbook shows how strength in the physical, social, spiritual and mental areas of life can help young people to build a meaningful future.
Sex with Attitude - A relationship handbook:
This 32-page booklet helps young people to place a high value on themselves and their sexuality, and gives them logical and well supported reasons for making responsible choices. It makes it clear that sex has the wonderful capacity to enrich lives and relationships, but it also respects the potential for ill-considered sex to damage and destroy self-respect, relationships and health. Relationships, love and sexuality are discussed in the light of one’s overall wellbeing (hauora).
