Attitude has had over 20 years experience developing resources for the New Zealand health curriculum. ‘Being Me’ embodies the ‘Attitude’ style by using humour, and relevant and contemporary content.

‘Being me’ was created to help teachers make the most of the limited time they have available to teach health. Its flexible format allows teachers to either explore concepts in depth, or jump in and out of topics when an opportunity arises. It covers four important topics facing young people during adolescents; Friendships, Identity, Puberty and Technology. Each topic contains information, activities, stories, quotes, and activities to do at home with parents. It’s designed to be used over two years.

‘Being me’ is part of a wider health programme offered to intermediate schools. The programme consists of presentations, workshops, and parent evenings.

Curriculum alignment

Attitude works with many teachers to ensure that our programme aligns with Levels 3 and 4 of the health and physical education learning area of the New Zealand curriculum. We also employed Cognition Education to guide our programme development. This included a three month inquiry surveying 448 parents, 126 teachers and several focus groups with students. Survey results have influenced the programme structure, content and priorities.
